Oranges, a Mind Challenge

Today Briquinex offers you a tasty brain test.
One day John and Paul get together after school and Paul says:
- John give me an orange so that i can have twice as many as you. John has a more modest approach and says:

-Paul why don't you give me an orange so that we both have the same number of oranges.
The Briquinex challenge is to determine how many oranges the two of them have.
