H-I-I-W Thinking Technique to Gain Clarity

What is it?

HIIW is a thinking tool I've developed in order to explore, identify and make choices (do more of, less of, do something else) when it comes to:

- Potential and actual paths of action,
- Motives and Reasons for Action;
- Interferences that are currently or might in the future impact in a positive or negative way your actions

How it Works?

You ask a series of helping questions that will help you to get awareness of your mental patterns and in light of newly acquired insight you may decide to take a new approach.

Read the articles related to decision making.

Steps:

Step-0:
-In order for this technique to be effective you must in advance use WOF technique to get clarity about your Orientation.
I would also recommend to use GoG tool for supplementary insights about your goals.

- Although you could start with H, I actually recommend you to start with W.

Step -1:  WHY (else)
at this step you clarify your most basic motives and reasons for Action. What is that not only get's you going but also keeps you going when it's going to get though;

Step-2:  Intereferences
at this step you explore parts, aspects, elements, factors that are currently or might in the future have a positive or negative impact on your actions.

Step-3:  IN WHAT WAYS  & HOW TO / ELSE
at this step we explore our current strategies, mental maps, plans for actions, the routes we are taking.
we also look at potential and alternative strategies and paths of action.

A detailed case study of H-I-I-W Practical Example.

Premises?

- If I were to use an visual analogy of a car:
            - the HOW could be both like the Engine and the Road of the and for the Car, while
            - the WHY might be both like the Fuel and the Destination of the and for the Car;

- How would your car run without any of the major Components?

- Usually there are more than one way to go about doing something / achieve your goals;

- Also usually most of us tend to have a rigid approach and to get stuck only on one route, path, recipe, strategy, plan;

- We tend to focus primarily if not exclusively only on the HOW to do something and forget about WHY we are doing it;

- While we're working towards a goal there is a good chance that somewhere in the back of your mind or in reality you might have some things that distract you attention and energies away form the goal;

Pre-Requisites?
- WOF Technique;
- PIE Technique;
- GOG Technique;

Why Use it? What to Expect?
You might want to use this technique to better understand yourself, i.e. your thinking patterns.
You may expect, that after using this technique, to have a greater clarity about:WHY you're doing some things, HOW your are doing them or how else you could do them, Identify INTERERENCES.
In the end you'll have to make new choices. You may also chose to go as before.
