Discover your Life's Purpose Exercise #1 Future Self Experiment

Future Self Experiment to Find the Purpose / Meaning of my / your Life!

In this exercise we are going to use our imagination.

You're probably having a challenging time in your life and/or are looking for some inspiration. In any case turn on your imagination and be ready to find some answers.

We are going to assume that we have lived already a very purposeful and meaningful live.

We walk into a very beautiful courtyard. It's spring time, the grass is green, we see lots of blooming trees: apples, cherries, plums, oranges,... Colorful butterflies are beginning to appear and birds are singing happily flying from one tree to another.

We walk this beautiful path among flowers and trees until we reach a magnificent house.
On the porch we see a very old and very wise man (or woman) sitting on a rocking chair sipping a cool drink in the company of some dear friends.

It's a future version of ourselves after having lived a very happy, healthy, joyful, rich life in many ways full of lots of experiences that taught us many lessons.

We grab a chair and join them on the porch. After a few moments the friends leaves alone.

We tell ourselves ( the wise one in the future ) the circumstances of our situation. We feel understood and having a sense of inner peace being there.

We ask our future self how did he/she found his/hers life purpose?

What did we enjoy to do in our life?

What gave meaning and sense to our lives?

 What made life worth living?

What should we do at this point in our lives?

What other advice or insight does our future self has for us?

While balancing is this rocking chair our future self may look at us with empathy, respect, appreciation for our situation fully aware that at one point in the past he /she was in our place right before figuring it out!

We wait respectfully, listen and consider the feedback our future self has for us!

Depending on your circumstances, the more relaxed and open minded you are the more chance are that this exercise will work for you too!

You may need to repeat this exercise several times to refine the quality of the answers you get!
